All the illiterates in the town were rounded up
and sat at a large table in the town hall
and given a pencil and one sheet of paper.
What was it going to be?
A new constitution, a new bible,
a new TV series, a “Police R4 shooting” story,
a recipe for water, a new tax code?
At the end of the day the sheets were collected
and bundled together.
