They just wanted to be together, and just see each other and the magnificent scenery. They each wore a pair of blue shorts and a pork-pie hat; and he carried a bag with their lunch in it.

And when they were up, they were up, and when they were down, they were down, and when they were only half-way up, they were neither up nor down.

They took the coastal footpath northwards to Bottleport, it was very up and down. Up to the tall chalk cliffs with the great views. Down to the coves each with a brook, some with beaches, some with villages and one with a swamp.

They sat on a bench high above the sea, he put the bag on the bench. She barked a joyful “Heh, heh!” and waved her tail, it was lunchtime. She put her front legs into the bag to hold it open and he used his front legs to fish out a bowl and container of milk, and to push out milk into the bowl. He fished out a piece of cow for her and a piece of salmon for himself.

She looked at him, she liked what she saw. He looked at her, just wonderful.

There was mostly a bridge, sometimes just stepping stones, there was a long narrow bridge across the swamp. They mostly walked on four legs, sometimes on two, especially when they met walkers coming the other way.

A family came towards them, they recognised Griesela and the cat. The two children ran towards them and threw their arms in the air, “Whay! Hay!” She put her front legs into the bag to hold it open and he used his front legs to fish out a bag of jelly babies for the two children.

They did not meet many walkers, but they all stared at Griesela and the cat. Such is fame.

It was the last cove before Bottleport and was of course named Bottle Cove – anything that you threw into the water, such as a bottle with a message in it, never came back. It was a dangerous place – plenty of signs “No Swimming, No Paddling, Dangerous Undertow!” There was no stream to cross.

So why was there an inflated air mattress floating out to sea with a little boy and a little girl on it? And who was the very evil and very nasty man running away in the direction of Bottleport?

Griesela knew what to do, she charged into the water and used four-leg drive to reach the girl and boy. The cat ran after the man and immobilised his knees.

He watched Griesela, what a hero she was. She put her head on the mattress and trapped it between her chin and chest – full four‑leg‑power back to the shore. Griesela was a powerful swimmer, she liked swimming, Angie had taught her, the salty seawater got rid of fleas and healed minor cuts. The cat kept his distance from the water, he was proud of Griesela.

They sat on a bench, he put his bag on the bench, she put her front legs into the bag to hold it open and he used his front legs to fish out a bag of jelly babies for the girl and boy.

The cat pressed a button three times on the little box hanging from his neck. Three beeps meant that Angie and Jonathan would be waiting for them in Bottleport. The cat picked up the little girl and put her on Griesela’s back; he picked up the little boy and off they went to Bottleport; which got its name from the brewing and the bottling of IPA beer for export to the whole world.

Up and over the next and last cliff for a grand view of the town, the old harbour, the new harbour, the south beach, the north beach and, of course, the promenade.

They soon reached the end of the prom, a crowd of people formed around them. They walked along the prom, the little girl still riding on Griesela’s back, the cat walking on his hind legs holding the little boy.

This is WesPro TV serving the West Province. My name is Jim Simes and what you are seeing are live pictures from Bottleport on the west coast. There is a huge crowd of people gathered on the south beach prom. We can’t see what is happening, so my colleagues have sent up a camera drone to get a better view.

Yesterday there was a report of two missing children, a girl and a boy. I’ve been told that the missing children are in the middle riding on the back of a horse. OK, better pictures from the drone now. There is a little girl riding on the back of a large dark-coloured dog and a little boy being carried by some guy dressed up as a large cat.

The crowd has reached the old harbour, most of the crowd are continuing to the north beach, but the two children are in the part of the crowd that have turned right and are heading up the main street.

Our drone is getting lower, the pictures are better, I can recognise the dog and the cat, they are stars from the TV show. Oh, a short video of a man being carried in a wheel barrow along the prom by several policemen, I’ve been told that he is the (ex) boyfriend of the children’s mother.

The dog, whose name is Griesela, and the cat; whose name is the cat, have been joined by two other persons. Who are they? The six of them disappear into a small house just off the main street.

The front door opens, out comes a small woman, she is going to make an announcement.

Hello everybody, my name is Angie, I am the cat’s manager.

Yesterday two small children from this town of Bottleport went missing. They have been found and returned to their mother.

Another woman appears carrying two small children, probably the mother.

It is with sadness that I have to say that a few hours ago the two children were put on an inflated air mattress and pushed into the treacherous waters of Bottle Cove where they would have drowned, but for the hero of the moment, Griesela. She swam out to save them and brought them safely back on land. Thank you Griesela!

I understand that a man is helping the police with their inquiries.

Now is your chance to take some pictures. I’m not taking questions.

I request that everyone here should depart. I request that nobody try to contact the mother or the children or approach the house or take any more photos. Leave us in peace! Good bye!

And with that both women disappeared back into the house.
